Hello again for another installment of the Art Challenge Projects (reply to the email if anyone has a better name for this, haha). I hope you received the previous message from a couple weeks ago with the initial explanation but it is up on my website if you missed it.
This week's project idea began as snowfall in an empty parking lot. Since Sara begins the work, her mental image is the one that comes out on the page for which I will be writing the music. I was surprised when I saw this drawing; I expected an open parking lot with a lamp in the middle with a much bluer light and snow falling around it lightly. The tone in my head changed dramatically upon seeing this image.
My first impressions were that of a lonely, urban environment. Instead of a clean open space this is a more close, tight, and messy place. The lighting especially adds to the city mood. As a result, I leaned into a jazzy mood, something slow. The image brings to mind a busy locale yet in a lonely part of the city, like maybe just down the street is busy but here is desolate.
