Hello again for another installment of the Art Challenge Projects. Now that we're starting to get into a rhythm with releases, the goal is that you will see one of these every other Sunday or Monday, so stay tuned.
For this week's project, the idea we started with was canyon at sunset. Sara's drawing turned out to look like a Western American landscape, which inspired the direction of my writing to be similar to American western film scores. Basically, the sound combines American classical music with Latin folk tunes/instrumentation. This one was a bit more of a challenge for me. Writing orchestral music takes extra work to compose and also more work to produce, due to a more complex instrumentation and programming for realism. Hopefully this track succeeds in capturing the essence of a canyon in American West.
The music starts out with a big, orchestral sound to set the scene and evoke adventure. However, the sun is setting on the scene and the music drops to the more Latin influenced section while still keeping some of the energy up. The final section returns the theme of the first section with a much more subdued tempo and tone to bring the sense that the day is coming to an end, yet the journey will continue.
